Immersive Learning

BEST PRACTICES IN  IMMERSIVE LEARNING Virtual and Augmented reality simulations was mainly something I associated gaming with. I have put on a VR set and beat many rounds of Beat Saber and have rode many rollercoasters in Epic Rollercoasters, but have rarely thought of VR as an opportunity for an immersive learning experience. When researching the different ways immersive learning can be used within education or a workplace, they can really offer valuable opportunities for one to gain authentic experiences, real-world situations, and practice applying skills. I created a 4 minute video sharing what immersive learning is, reviewing three ways immersive learning can be used within educational or workplace settings, and give greater detail of an immersive learning of a Customer Service training as an example. When putting together an immersive learning training, I assembled a checklist of best practices that can aid in the design and development. Following these details can as...

PLN - Personal Learning Network Plan

Image
EXPANDING MY PERSONAL LEARNING NETWORK In some way, everyone has a personal learning network (PLN). They may not know that the resources they are using are considered a PLN, but if they are engaging, digitally or physically, with people and resources creating experiences for themselves, and gathering knowledge from it, they have a PLN.  Trust et al. This change can bring new experiences, provide new knowledge as well as gain access to new resources that align with the desires that one now has. Change is inevitable and it would make sense that one's personal learning network would also change in order for one to grow. Here is an image replicated my current PLN When contemplating my PLN,...

Microlearning in the Workplace

WHAT IS MICROLEARNING AND HOW DOES IT SHAPE WORKPLACE TRAININGS? Which would you prefer?   A lengthy training, as in hours long, sitting and listening to one person talk a majority of the time about many concepts, your legs go numb and your mind begins to wander OR a training that can be completed within a few minutes, focused on one specific skill, and can be done just about anywhere?  Microlearning is just that. A more modern take to training that delivers information to learners in small, focused sections that can be completed within a few minutes and be accessed anytime and anywhere. This type of learning allows for learners to be able to grasp a concept, retain the information, and apply the knowledge immediately. Learners are also able to return to the materials as needed based on their personal learning pace (Kannan, 2024). With many workplaces working at various speeds and full of diverse employees, microlearning can reach just about everyone’s learning needs.  Th...
